HCR's Commitment to Protection for Vulnerable Communities

Horn Climate Resilience (HCR) is dedicated to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well-being of vulnerable populations in Somalia. With the increasing challenges posed by climate shocks, displacement, and conflict, protection remains a core focus of our work. Our Protection programs are designed to address the unique vulnerabilities of women, children, and internally displaced persons (IDPs), ensuring they receive the care and support needed to live with dignity and security.

Our Key Protection Initiatives:

Child Protection:
HCR prioritizes the safety and well-being of children affected by displacement and crises. We work to prevent child exploitation, abuse, and neglect by creating safe spaces, offering psychosocial support, and promoting child-friendly environments in communities and IDP camps.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response:
Recognizing the heightened risk of GBV during crises, HCR provides survivors with access to medical care and psychosocial counselling. We also conduct awareness campaigns and community trainings to prevent GBV and promote gender equality.

Protection for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs):
HCR works closely with displaced populations to address their immediate protection needs, such as access to shelter, legal rights, and basic services. We advocate for their inclusion in decision-making processes and ensure their voices are heard in policy discussions.

Community-Based Protection Mechanisms:
Empowering communities to take an active role in their protection is central to our approach. HCR establishes community protection committees, trains local leaders, and promotes participatory planning to identify and address protection risks collaboratively.

Advocacy for Rights and Policy Change:
HCR advocates for policies and frameworks that prioritize the rights and needs of vulnerable populations, including women, children, and IDPs. We collaborate with government entities, humanitarian partners, and local stakeholders to influence policies and practices that enhance protection outcomes.

Psychosocial Support and Mental Health Services:
Recognizing the psychological impact of crises, HCR provides psychosocial support and counselling services to help individuals cope with trauma, rebuild their lives, and foster resilience
